Sunday 6th April 2008 Triangular Tournament at Kesteven Melton I U7’s 30 V Kesteven U7’s 25 Melton Under 7’s fielded two sides on Sunday against Kesteven RFC and Melbourne RFC. This first game saw Melton take the lead through Lewis Postle, and further tries from Taylor Jordan and Sam Legg kept Melton in front only for Kesteven to hit back. The victory was sealed with Postle’s second try of the game. Melton 1 U7’s 40 V Melbourne U7’s45 Melton played Melbourne in this end to end high scoring game with Lewis Postle scoring five tries and the other scores coming from George Morgan-Jones, Harry Utley, and Taylor Jordan. Melbourne eventually ran out the winners by just the one try. G Morgan-Jones T Holt L Postle S Legg O Plowman T Jordan H Utley O Somerville Melton II U7’s 20 V Kesteven U7’s 35 This first game for Melton II saw some great Rugby with excellent tagging and tries from Hectar Bacon (3) and Alex Lunn, but this couldn’t stop Kesteven winning the game by three tries. Melton II U7’s 35 V Melton U7’s 30 Melton put in a much stronger performance in this match with great end to end play, relentless tagging and some great passing. The team pulled together to win this game with tries from Alex Lunn (2), Sam Thorpe (2), Hectar Bacon (2) and Callum Davies to finish the day on a winning note. A Hutchinson A Lunn H Bacon L Wadding S Thorpe S Conboy C Davies Sunday 2nd March 2008 Away to Hinckley MELTON U7’S 60 - HINCKLEY U7’S 45 Melton made the long journey to Hinckley on Sunday and the whole team played some fantastic Rugby. With great team work in attack and defence Melton soon established a three try lead through Hectar Bacon, Lewis Postle and Sam Legg to run out well deserved winners of their first match. MELTON U7’S 35 - HINCKLEY U7’S 45 The second match saw Melton play their best Rugby of the season with great passing and support play. Luke Wadding had a great run and scored a fantastic try to bring Melton back in the game just before half time where they were trailing 15 – 5. Further scores from Archie Hutchinson, Oliver Plowman and Sam Conboy couldn’t stop the home side winning the match by two tries. MELTON U7’S 55 - HINCKLEY 50 The last game was the closest of all with both sides matching each other try for try. Scores from Daniel Ernie and Harry Utley ensured a two try lead at half time. The second half was much the same with Melton displaying some good passing skills and running out winners with a last gasp try from George Morgan-Jones. Team (Tries scored) A

L Chilton (1), H Bacon (3), Sunday 17th February 2008 Away to Syston Team Callum Davies, George Morgan-Jones, Alex Lunn, Oliver Plowman, Sam Conboy, Daniel Ernie, Sam Thorpe, Callum Davies, Owen Sommerville, Hector Bacon, Archie Hutchinson, Harry Utley and Luke Wadding Melton RFU under 7’s -15, Syston - 45 Melton really struggled in their first away match this week against rivals Syston. Syston looked strong from the onset with some excellent forward play. Melton kept up the pressure though with tries in the first half from Daniel Ernie (2) and Alex Lunn. After the whistle, Syston’s attacking squad continued to push forward strongly, with Melton unable to defend strongly enough. A well deserved victory for Syston. Melton RFU under 7’s - 20, Syston - 10 Melton’s defence was much stronger in their second game, with some excellent tagging to ensure that they did not give away unwanted tries from their opponents. The visitors also ran well, passing the ball to ensure that they kept the home side on their toes. Great running up field in both halves earned Melton some valuable tries to win the game. Tries came from Alex Lunn, George Morgan-Jones, Daniel Ernie and Hector BaconSunday 3rd February 2008 Triangular Tournament - Keyworth and Sleaford Team Callum Davies, George Morgan-Jones, Alex Lunn, Oliver Plowman, Sam Conboy, Daniel Ernie, Sam Legg, Lewis Postle, Callum Davies, Owen Sommerville, Sabine Brewster, Thomas Holt and Luke Wadding Melton RFU under 7’s -25, Keyworth – 10 Melton Rugby Club this week was home to a triangular. The under 7’s first opponents were Keyworth. The team played well together with some great defence in the first half. Excellent tagging came from George Morgan-Jones and Oliver Plowman. This excellent team kept the visitors at bay, and with some great running up-field they gave a convincing victory. Tries for Melton came from Luke Wadding, Daniel Ernie, Lewis Postle and Alex Lunn (2). Melton RFU under 7’s - 20, Sleaford - 30 The second game again showed good team work from Melton. Both teams proved they were capable of excellent running with tries being made at either end. Control from Sleaford came in the second half as Melton seemed to tire. However, the home side didn’t give up easily, and continued to push hard to further increase their scores, but this wasn’t enough to beat a determined Sleaford side. Tries in this match came from Sam Conboy (2), Lewis Postle and Thomas Holt.Sunday 16th December 2007 Home to Nuneaton Team George Morgan-Jones, Alex Lunn, Oliver Plowman, Sam Conboy, Daniel Ernie, Luke Wadding, Sam Legg, Lewis Postle, Archie Hutchinson, Sam Thorpe and Hector Bacon Melton RFU under 7’s - 30, Nuneaton - 30 Melton RFC under 7’s travelled away this week to meet opponents Nuneaton. Both teams fought hard in their first match with tries plentiful tries scored by both teams in a game which was fast moving from end-to-end. First half tries for Melton came from Hector Bacon and Lewis Postle. Further scores from Postle (2), and additional scores from Daniel Ernie (2) gave the visitors a well deserved draw. Melton RFU under 7’s - 35, Nuneaton - 25 Melton gave an excellent performance in their second match. The team worked well together with some great passing of the ball to move the game up field to Nuneaton try-line. Scores came from Daniel Ernie (2) and Archie Hutchinson after a great run for the first half. In the second half Melton continued to play well with great tagging. Further tries came from Alex Lunn and Lewis Postle (3). Melton RFU under 7’s - 35, Nuneaton – 20 Melton didn’t let the cold weather distract them for their final game. The team again worked excellently together and showed strengths in both their defensive tagging and their runs towards the try line. This gave the away side a convincing victory over their opponents with tries coming from Hector Bacon, Daniel Ernie (2), Lewis Postle (2) and George Morgan-Jones (2).Sunday 9th December 2007 Loughborough Festival Team George Morgan-Jones, Alex Lunn, Oliver Plowman, Sam Conboy, Daniel Ernie, Luke Wadding, Sam Legg, Lewis Postle, Archie Hutchinson, Harry Utley, Callum Davies and Sabine Brewster Melton were away this week at the Loughborough tournament. The scores were as follows Melton RFU under 7’s – 15, Paviors - 20 In the first game this week, Melton closely lost out to a draw against their first rivals Nottingham Paviors. Both teams played well with some excellent running and passing of the ball. Tries for Melton came from Archie Hutchinson and Lewis Postle (2) Melton RFU under 7’s – 10, Loughboro’ B - 25 Melton fought hard in their second match, but were sadly outshone by their opponents Loughboro’ B. Unfortunately only Lewis Postle and Luke Wadding were able to score for Melton in this game which showed some great tagging from both sides, but Melton were not good enough o hold a defensive line against a very strong Loughboro’ side. Melton RFU under 7’s – 20, Market Bosworth - 20 In their third game, Melton’s team spirit started to show through. The team worked well together against a strong defence from Market Bosworth, but excellent running proved an advantage for the Melton side. A worthy draw came with tries from Sam Legg, Lewis Postle (2). Melton RFU under 7’s – 30 – Loughboro’ A – 20 After a draw in their previous game, the Melton side continued to improve their game. Excellent tagging against a strong Loughboro’ attack meant that Melton were able to stop their opponents getting to the try line and then push forward to score. Tries in this game came from Daniel Ernie, Sam Conboy, Alex Lunn and a hat trick for Lewis Postle. Melton RFU under 7’s – 20, Melbourne – 15 In their final game, a tired Melton side were able to continue their improved game play with another victory. Lewis Postle scored another hat-trick with Luke Wadding adding another try to the score sheet to earn Melton a well-deserved win. Overall the team work excellently together with good defending and passing of the ball.Sunday 25th November 2007 Home to Leicester Forest East Team Owen Sommerville, Oliver Plowman, Lewis Postle, Archie Hutchinson, Alex Lunn, Sam Legg, Daniel Ernie, Callum Davies, Sam Conboy, Luke Wadding, Harry Utley, Sabine Brewster, Sam Thorpe, Melton RFU under 7’s -50, Leicester Forest East – 35 Melton’s first match against opponents LFE proved exciting, with fast play from end-to-end by both teams. This resulted in quick first half tries from Lewis Postle, Sam Legg and Alex Lunn. Melton continued with their forward attack in the first half with further tries from Daniel Ernie, Sabine Brewster and Sam Thorpe. The second half again started well for the visitors with further tries for Melton from Archie Hutchinson and Luke Wadding. Lewis Postle and Alex Lunn went on to score a second try each to give the team a well deserved victory against some strong opposition. Melton RFU under 7’s - 35, LFE - 35 LFE came back strongly in their second match with some great team play. Melton responded well with great supportive play from the squad which resulted in some excellent tagging. Tries came from Luke Wadding, Daniel Ernie (4), Alex Lunn and Lewis Postle. Melton defended their line well and held out for a draw. Melton RFU under 7’s – 40, LFE - 40, Both sides now turned on the pressure and played well pushing against their opponents try lines. Great team play showed through for the Melton side with some great tries being scored in the first half by Sabine Brewster, Callum Davies and Lewis Postle (2). LFE fought back strongly after the break to clinch the lead. However, the visitors again pushed forward in to their opponents half with further tries from Alex Lunn (2), Sam Legg and Oliver Plowman to ensure they kept the scores equal. A well deserved draw.Sunday 18th November 2007 Away to Nottingham Team Callum Davies, George Morgan-Jones, Alex Lunn, Oliver Plowman, Sam Conboy, Daniel Ernie, Luke Wadding, Sam Legg, Lewis Postle, Archie Hutchinson, Sabine Brewster, Sam Thoroe and Owen Sommerville Melton RFU under 7’s - 30, Nottingham - 30 Melton RFC under 7’s match this week was an away fixture with tough opponents Nottingham. The Nottingham side looked strong throughout the game with some fast running on a large pitch. However Melton stayed strong with some excellent defending and with good support from all the players, they were able to break through with tries from Lewis Postle (2), Alex Lunn, Daniel Ernie (3). Melton RFU under 7’s - 25, Nottingham 35 The second game again showed great determination from both sides Melton kept up their great passing skills and defended their try line well. But a tired away team could not hold the defence against their opponents. Melton’s passing and tagging was excellent throughout the game this lead to some great runs upfield and the team were able to score a number of tries from Alex Lunn (2), Sam Conboy, Sam Legg and Sam ThorpSunday 11th November 2007 Away to Keyworth Team Callum Davies, George Morgan-Jones, Alex Lunn, Oliver Plowman, Sam Conboy, Daniel Ernie and Luke Wadding Melton RFU under 7’s - 25, Keyworth – 25 Melton RFC under 7’s travelled away this week to meet opponents Keyworth. The meeting resulted in a close first game with both sides offering excellent tagging, especially from Luke Wadding and George Morgan-Jones, plus some determined defending from Daniel Ernie. Four tries from Alex Lunn and a further from Sam Conboy earner the team a well deserved draw. Melton RFU under 7’s - 35, Keyworth 20 The second game again showed good team work from Melton. Good passing from the side meant that Oliver Plowman was able to set up two tries for his team mates to secure a first half lead. Further skilful running upfield and supportive play throughout, secured a confident victory for the side. Tries came from Callum Davies (1), Alex Lunn (1), Sam Conboy (1) and Daniel Ernie (4).Sunday 4th November 2007 Home to Hinckley Team Owen Sommerville, Oliver Plowman, Lewis Postle, Archie Hutchinson, Alex Lunn, Sam Legg, Daniel Ernie, Hector Bacon, Alfie Buckley, Callum Davies, Billy Davies, Sam Conboy, Luke Wadding, George Morgan-Jones Melton RFU under 7’s - 30, Hinckley – 25 The first match against their tough opponents Hinckley proved hard work for the new Melton squad. The team worked well together with some excellent passing and tagging, ensuring some good runs up-field. This secured a lead in the first half the team with two tries each from Lewis Postle and Daniel Ernie. In the second half, Hinckley came back strongly with some positive attacking where Melton conceded a number of points. Sam Conboy and Hector Bacon were able to maintain the lead at full-time with two more tries for the team. Melton RFU under 7’s - 25, Hinckley – 30 The second match showed Hinckley’s strong attacking skills. They secured their first try following an excellent run. Some great passing from Melton showed that they were not to be easily beaten and put on a brave defence. Tries from the Melton squad came from Lewis Postle, Luke Wadding, Daniel Ernie and Sam Conboy. Melton RFU under 7’s - 35, Hinckley – 50 Melton continued to show determination in their third match against their tough opposition. The team continued to maintain excellent tagging skills, however Hinckley proved too strong with fierce forward running. Melton however, maintained a respectable score with some good running providing tries for Daniel Ernie, Sam Conboy and Owen SommervilleTriangular Tournament - Oakham and Corby 28th October 2007 The team consisted of George Morgan-Jones, Alex Lunn, Lewis Postle, Daniel Ernie, Oliver Plowman, Callum Davies, Harry Utley, Luke Wadding, Owen Sommerville, Hector Bacon, Daniella Birchmore, Brandan Birchmore, Sam Legg, Sabine Brewster and Sam Conboy. Melton RFU under 7's 30, Stuart and LLoyd 10 This was Meltons first competitive team game. The team worked well gaining a valuable try from Lewis Postle and two further tries from Alex Lunn in the first half. After half-time, further excellent running from Sam Conboy and Daniel Ernie secured a further two tries. The team worked well defensively, and with a final late try from Luke Wadding secured their first victory. Melton RFU under 7's 15, Oakham 15 Melton's second opponent were a formidable Oakham side. The bigger Oakham team seemed at first to have the upper hand, but with great defending from the Melton squad and some excellent tagging from Brandan Birchmore and Oliver Plowman the scores at half-time were equal with two tries from Lewis Postle, again scoring after some great running upfield. In the second half, Oakham took the lead, however Melton responded strongly with a try for Daniel Ernie to secure a much deserved draw.

Melton under 7`s faced tough opposition in a
four team tournament at Nottingham on Sunday.
The opening game was drawn 10-10 against Newark Trojans with two fine tries for Melton by Jack Owens. The hosts Nottingham fielded a strong side to win the second match 30-15 despite some fine support play from Melton and three excellent tries from Toby Carter. A very close final game against Newark Spartans was drawn 20-20 with tries coming from Adam Rowlett, Jack Owens, Aiden Smith and Toby Carter. Melton Under 7 `s took the honours in a
two-match game against Market Harborough.
The first game was a played in heavy
conditions with the rapidly improving Melton side winning 35-10 with tries
by Jack Owens (2), Jacob Horton (2), Axi Hobill, Jake Beesley and Jake
Dixon.
The second game Market Harborough gained lots
of possession but Melton forced the errors with some quality tagging and
excellent support work which enabled them to win 35-20 with tries by Axi
Hobill (2), John Sommerville, Jacob Horton, Jake Dixon, Jack Owens and Adam
Rowlett.

Melton at Home to Leicester Forest and Keyworth Melton played host in a triangle to Leicester Forest and Keyworth. First to play were Leicester against Melton with both sides evenly matched. The game got off to a cracking start with Leicester scoring first but with some quick hands Melton soon drew level. Constant pressure saw Melton take the lead , but Leicester were just as determined and replied with a try of their own to make the score level at half time. After the break Melton soon found themselves defending again with Leicester scoring three more tries to Melton's one, with the final score Melton 3 - 5 Leicester. Melton's next game against Keyworth was also fast and flowing with both sides putting in some great tackles before Melton managed to score first. With some good passing Melton had stretched the lead to 2-0 by half time. At the start of the second half Keyworth were able to score a quick try, this gave them the edge for the rest of the half. Melton defended well but finished up loosing the game 2 - 3. Well played team J Owens, H Parker, J Horton, A Hobil, A Rowlatt, T Carter, J Dixon, I Harrison, A Smith, J Beesley, L Burton, T Green. Kesteven Festival Melton Under 7's took part in their first fixture of the season, with a trip to Kesteven to play in a festival. In the first match the opponents were Ilkeston who had a mixture of sevens and eights, Melton started strong and were soon on the score sheet with an early try. By the end of the first half Melton were leading 2-0.Melton stretched their in he second half with good running and strong tagging to finish the game 5-1 winners. In the second game the opponents were Sleaford, who started strong and Melton were soon behind but with some great team work managed to draw level at 2-2 by half time. After the break Melton found the going hard and were having to do more defending final score 2-7. With the group stage over Melton finished in third place to play against Nottingham who finished third in their pool. With both teams playing their best, the game was very close with Melton just missing out by 2-3.
