Sunday 22nd April 2007 Development Cup Melton Under 9’s development squad took on teams from Oakham, Nottingham and Market Harborough in the Development Cup on Sunday losing two hard fought matches and drawing the other. Tries came from Wilf Carrier, Joe Smith and Jack Parr and Melton Under 9’s Player of the Day was Wilf Carrier. sides from Lutterworth RFC and Derby RFC on Sunday with the whole squad playing
some great rugby. Sunday 4th March 2007 Triangular tournament v Kesteven and Stamford Melton U9’s 25 Vs Kesteven U9’s 0 Melton Under 9’s entertained Kesteven and Stamford RFC’s on Sunday in very cold, wet and windy conditions. Melton started very strongly running in two trys in as many minutes, both from Harry Wood. With the whole side working really well in the rucks and mauls the home side added to the scoring with three further great trys from Toby Hutchinson, George Hall and Ed Hobil to run out really worthy winners. Melton U9’s 0 Vs Stamford 0 In this hard fought game both teams played some great rugby in awful weather conditions. Some great handling kept the game flowing with both sides putting in a lot of effort and going close on numerous occasions. The game ended on a much deserved draw. In a 4 – 2 win over Syston there were tries scored by Harry Wood (x 2), George Bagshaw & Tom Folwell. Against Oakham (2 – 5) the try scorers were Harvey Green & Harry Wood. During the two games there was some strong tackling and as has become the Melton’s trademark, some excellent rucking. Team: George Bagshaw, Linden Brewster, Wilf Carrier, Tom Folwell, Seb Greasley, Harvey Green, George Hall, Toby Hutchinson, Ed Hobill, Jamie Legg, Joe Mcmenamin & Harry WoodSunday 19 November 2006 Melton vs Jimmies Melton U9’s entertained Aylestone St James and put in a creditable performance in all three games. Melton A 35, Jimmies 0 Playing some lovely rugby Melton’s A side proved to be far too strong for Jimmies, passing the ball well they ran in seven tries without reply with good performances from Tom Folwell and Joe McMenamin. Going into the second half 10 – 0 down Melton carried on defending well conceding only one more try to end the game 15 – 0 down. Try scorers H Wood (1) G Bagshaw (1) J McMenamin (1)Saturdayday 11th November Melton vs Nottingham Melton Team 1, 5 Vs Nottingham A, 15 Melton Under 9's played host to Nottingham over two games which saw both teams providing an outstanding level of rugby for this age group. Nottingham won the first 15 - 5. Melton held possession for most of the second half producing a great try from Harvey Green, hard tackling on the line from George Hall and great running from George Bagshaw. Melton Team 1, 5 Vs Nottingham A 15 The second game again challenged Melton, who conceded 3 tries but showing grit and determination pulled back with a try from Ed Hobill in the dying minutes. Team: H. Legg, H Wood, T Folwell, J McMenamin, T Hutchinson, H Green, G Bagshaw, E Hobill, G Hall. Melton Team 2, 0 Vs Nottingham B, 30 Against excellent opposition Melton displayed some strong defensive play and during the two matches (0-30 & 5-55) there were many good performances. Joe Smith and Dominic Glover both carried the ball well, Wilf Carrier scored Melton’s only try and Sebastian Greasley and Linden Brewster tackled excellently throughout.
